"Where Has Everybody Gone?" Thought Sid to Himself

A shortlisted Chistmas card, published by Tate

A few years ago, an invitation to spend a snowy Christmas day with friends prompted me to take a cycle ride across London. Never before had I experienced the city in this way. Typically so cacophonous and frenetic, I was struck at how perfectly still it had become - how eerily silent. As I rode through the bleached out, empty streets, I imagined all kinds of colourful festivities taking place inside the illuminated households. It was that unusual sensation of sublime desolation that went on to inspire this Tate Christmas card design.

Available for purchase either online or direct from the Tate Modern shop.
